Korean singer makes an impact on orphans

(KPL) Yesterday afternoon, Mr Kangta, a famous singer from the Republic of Korea, and his band members paid a visit to the Save our Souls (SOS) school at kilometre six on the National southern road.

Over 170 orphans are cared for and educated at the school and they were all excited at the visit of Mr Kangta, whose music is very popular in Laos.

This is first time Mr Kangta has visited Laos and his visit has surprised teens, young and old people as he performed a concert at the National Culture Hall last night.

During the visit to the SOS school, Bounmy Siphilom, Director of SOS, and concerned teachers warmly received him.

Mr Bounmy said “we were very glad when we heard the good news that a famous singer from the Republic of Korea would visit our school. This visit is an important step to strengthen the cooperation and relations on exchanging the different cultures and traditional styles between Lao and the Republic of Korea.”

Mr Kangta contributed greatly to this goal last night at his concert which was set to spark Lao singers understanding, knowledge and experience in how to improve themselves. The concert was also attended by hundreds of local fans.

During the visit to the SOS school Mr Kangta presented a 24 channel TV and stationery, which was valued at USD 1,500.

He said that he was very proud with his first visit to Laos, saying that Lao people are very friendly and smile a lot.  He added that these orphans would be important backbone of nation in the socio-economic development in future and that their development needs to be encouraged. He believed that they would be lovely people of the nation and bring prosperity to their country.

SOS was first established in Vientiane Capital in 1990, after that the Lao government extended the organisation’s reach to other provinces, including Champassak, Xieng Khouang, Luang Prabang and Houaphan.
